Adoption Success Stories
We’re working to move local animals through our shelter and into the hearts and homes of our community. We really enjoy getting updates from adopters or other folks who have news of our “graduates.” If you have a story to share, please send us photos to our facebook or instagram accounts or email us.
A Note from Benny's Adopters
It’s been a little over a week since our sweet Benny joined our family and already we can’t imagine life without him. Benjamin is a gentle giant who loves socializing with other dogs and loves to stretch his long legs and run on the beach or at the dog park. We have so much fun cuddling with him and playing with his many new toys (yes he’s very spoiled). He’s a dream in public spaces, and we can’t wait to bring him with us on many more adventures. We can’t thank @officialscanimalshelter enough for helping us give Benny a #fureverhome and @musgrave.emily for fostering our sweet boy and making him feel so very loved. Welcome home, Benny boo! We love you!
Love Every Minute
“I adopted senior dog Rusty in October 2012 at the age of 7, or 8. Fast forward 6 years, and we have had the best adventures with him. Unfortunately, he has slowed down significantly this past year, but his little brother Pablo (adopted last year) is keeping him young. We’ve loved every minute with Rusty.”
Blu No More...
Ezra Blu, formerly know as Ferris at the shelter, was a shy little kitty that hit the jackpot with his adopter. Her story goes… “I was getting ready to go get him, a name screamed out in my head. EZRA. I don’t even know any Ezra so not sure why. I Googled the name and it means little helper. On the way to the shelter, I took a wrong turn. I pulled into an small alley to turn around and looked up. The name of the alley was Ezra Lane. A block from the shelter. I knew that was to be his name. Ezra Blu. He has brought more joy to me than I could have imagined. He saved my soul!”
Husky Heaven
Makua (formerly known as Suki) was a shelter summer camp favorite. She was sweet and very charming. Her new owners agree! They are very active folks who backpack and surf, and it is the perfect fit for a husky dog. Her new owners said the following: “Checking in to give you guys an update on Makua (formerly Suki)… we love her so much!! & feel extremely blessed to be her dog parents she is so sweet, playful & those eyes melt our hearts anyway thank you guys for all you do. You really changed our lives for the better!”
Life Changing
“Kiki (formerly known as Soot) is doing well and we love her. I never knew how much an animal could change your life.”
So Happy We Found Her
“We adopted Mirabelle from the shelter and she is wonderful! Her name is now Pixie and we all love her, including her feline brothers. We are so happy we found her!”
Part of the Family
“Just wanna share Chica (now Mocha) was the most well-behaved dog in the campsite on her debut camping trip! We’re so proud of her! She has learned so much over the past year. We’re so proud of her and she’s a huge part of the family. Please share these happy moments with all the staff and volunteers of the shelter who loved her!”
A Bright Spot in Life
“I have two cats from the animal shelter, Eleanor (formerly Saratoga) and Fiona (her name was always Fiona). I brought Fiona home a little over a year after I brought Eleanor home. I decided to get a second cat because I hoped it would help Eleanor’s confidence and give her a better playmate than my 14 year old dog. It took less than a week for Eleanor to claim Fiona as her own and Eleanor has grown leaps and bounds over the past year. Many people told me that two female cats would never get along, but they are best friends, regularly grooming each other and chasing each other around the house. I am so glad that I adopted both of my girls and they have now moved with me to Oregon and they are a huge bright spot in my life.”
Still Kittens...
“This is Meg and Jack. They were both adopted through you 14 and a half years ago. They both still act like kittens and play and taunt each other every day. Meg even waits every night to eat her dinner until the rest of her family sits down to eat. They are my heart.”
All in the Family!
“Our family adopted two dogs and three goats. We are one big happy family! Marty will be featured in the 2019 SCCAS Calendar too! Here is a photo of all of us.”
Madly In Love
Willie, formerly known as Hemingway, came to the shelter flea infested but spirited. He quickly found a new home where he is so loved. His new owners say “We adopted “Hemingway” whose adopted name is now “Willie” (like Willie Nelson.) Every moment since, we’ve fallen madly in love with him. He is hands down one of the sweetest little beings we have ever come across. He is playful and obedient. He is extremely intelligent (and even a little mischievous) and he just wants to cuddle and play with other puppies. He loves big dogs and small ones, is amazingly calm around children, loves the beach, the park, the mountains, and waiting until just before dawn to pop up into bed and snuggle. He is clever and goes with us everywhere…. From the very bottom of our souls to yours- thank you for finding him for us. Our cup, very truly, runneths over.”
Best Friends
“Hollie (formerly known as Juliet, tuxedo). We adopted Hollie in June and she instantly became inseparable from her new brother, Bowie (gray and white). They are best friends and it is so sweet.”
Big Happy Family!
“I found my love on the shelter website. She was in need of a home, and so precious I thought there was no way she’d want for long. I checked her photo everyday for a week, shocked and sad to see she was still available and not given a home, but also slightly hopeful she might be waiting for me. My boyfriend and I went in to meet her, then named Taffy. She was quiet and reserved, we mentioned to the staff our concerns of bringing her home to two other dogs. Bigger dogs. The shelter staff was so kind to suggest a play date and walk with everyone together, I think they knew what Taffy had in store for us. She walked on leash alongside our two bigger dogs like she had known them for years. They played in the shelter play area, and as they got to know each other I knew she’d be coming home with me. Thankfully the shelter made it all a simple process and we now are a big happy family! Thanks so much for helping connect me to my love, we call her Daffodil!”
Our Sweet, Energetic Kitten
“Kyro, previously know as “Pavarotti” came into our lives in a rather unexpected way. We were grieving the disappearance of our previously beloved first cat, but decided it was time to move on and try something we had never tried before – to raise a kitten. All assistants warned us he was an extremely vocal cat, hence the name, but we chose to give him a chance. Kyro has changed our perspective about cats and has become a member of our family in record time. He even loves hanging out with our dog and we cannot imagine life without that sweet energetic loving kitten. Here’s a photo of him with my husband. We hope our story helps inspire other families to adopt.”
Adventures for Mieka
“We love our Mieka (Sasha at the shelter). She is spoiled and we are going backpacking again this weekend!”
